At least 31 dead after bus crash in Bolivia

The tragedy occurred in Yocalla, in the south of the country, and it is suspected that the driver was traveling at high speed.

At least 31 people died on Monday when a passenger bus crashed from 800 meters in the town of Yocalla, in Potosí, in southern Bolivia. The newspaper El Deber reported that 15 other people were injured, including four minors.

The accident involved a public transport bus on a narrow route connecting the departments of Potosí and Oruro, according to the Traffic Police report.

The driver apparently "failed" to control the bus, said Colonel Victor Benavides. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital and some are in "serious" condition, he added.

What is the main hypothesis for the accident in Bolivia?

The bus that crashed was from the San José company and was heading to Oruro. Authorities are considering speeding as the first hypothesis.

"We have 31 people who are believed to have lost their lives in this incident. They are still recovering the bodies, while investigations are being carried out," said Colonel Limbert Choque. La Razón reported that two children are in intensive care.
