Bill Gates says AI will replace humans in the near future

Bill Gates recently shared some insights on the rapid progression of generative AI during an interview on The Tonight Show hosted by Jimmy Fallon. Microsoft co-founder predicts AI will gradually take over more professions and eventually replace humans in the workplace.

Everyone is amazed by the meteoric evolution of AI. Some of us are even, I would say, terrified, as Steven Adler, a former employee of OpenAI, said in a recent interview. And no wonder, because the truth is that there is no limit to the development of this type of advanced computing solutions, which undoubtedly promise a revolution similar to that experienced during the industrial revolution for the entire society at a global level.

There are some voices, such as Mustafa Suleyman himself, who are concerned about everything that artificial intelligence can achieve, which could evidently even be used to do evil in the most sophisticated ways imaginable; and even Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, speaks of the destructive potential of an AI that will sooner rather than later be everywhere.

Today we have another opinion in the last few hours and it has been Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, billionaire and now philanthropist who claims that "in most things" AI will be present, even replacing humans in countless tasks, but certainly not in all.

"We live in a time when intelligence is a rare thing – a great doctor or a great teacher. However, with AI, in the next decade, this will be free and common – great medical advice, great tutoring. This is very important because it solves specific problems, such as the lack of doctors or mental health professionals, but it will bring about many changes."

Bill Gates has no doubts: AI will take over many jobs in the near future

Bill Gates' interview on Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show offers many gems. The Seattle-born tycoon talks about artificial intelligence that will gradually take over more and more tasks or jobs, replacing humans who will have to adapt their societies.

Microsoft co-founder says that while the rapid evolution of AI is starting to scare people, the truth is that the hardest decision for humans will be choosing how and when to use AI capabilities to meet specific needs.

On the one hand, he claims that "no one will want to see an AI playing baseball," but on the other, he also explains that humans will not be necessary "for most things." In fact, Gates points out that, for example, mass production, storage and logistics, or even growing food will be tasks that will basically be solved by intelligent robots.

Bill Gates says that in this day and age he would create Microsoft again and he would do so by focusing on an artificial intelligence company that could compete with Google and OpenAI, although monetizing the technology is complicated for now, so it is very important to detect niches with limited competition.

The truth is that no one has told us what our lives will be like when AI evolves as much as it is expected to evolve, so as a society we will have to adapt to a revolutionary technology that, indeed, promises to revolutionize our way of life. In fact, Bill Gates himself claims that thanks to AI, humanity is approaching a time when we will be able to work much less, even in 3-day work weeks.

It remains to be seen how quickly citizens, politicians and governments in each country will adapt to such a huge revolution. The question is: where will the limits of today's AI be?
