Trump meets Milei, invites him to White House
US President Donald Trump and Argentine President Javier Milei met at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington.
Donald Trump gave the opening speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) and dedicated a few words to Javier Milei: "Our friend from Argentina is here," the US president said in greeting. He also highlighted the work the president is doing to reduce inflation in Argentina.
Meanwhile, in a speech lasting just over half an hour, Javier Milei said he would be willing to sign a trade agreement with the Trump administration, although he said the obstacle is Mercosur.
"Argentina wants to be the first country in the world to join this reciprocity agreement that the Trump administration is calling for in terms of trade," said the president at the end of his presentation at CPAC.
The two leaders met to discuss the "innovative economic reforms" being implemented by President Javier Milei in Argentina and stressed "the importance of both countries being able to work together," the Presidency said in a statement.
The US president also "invited President Milei to visit the White House in the coming months," the Casa Rosada press office said.
Javier Milei reached the summit amid the controversy generated by the dissemination of the $Libra token, with repercussions in Argentina and the world.
President Milei was accompanied by the Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei; the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo and the Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein.
