Zelensky ready to work under Trump leadership to get peace

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted a lengthy thread on X in which he highlighted US and European leadership and proposed a partial ceasefire that includes the release of prisoners and a halt to air and sea attacks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday offered Russia, for the first time, a partial ceasefire that would include the release of prisoners and a halt to air and sea attacks. In a post on his X profile, Zelensky pledges to take the first steps to "end the war [...] if Russia is willing to do the same."

"The first steps could be the release of prisoners and a truce in the air and at sea," the Ukrainian president said. The truce would include a "ban on missiles, long-range drones and bombs on energy and other civilian infrastructure" as well as an "immediate" halt to maritime attacks.

Zelensky also wanted to put his relationship with US President Donald Trump back on track after their tense meeting last Friday, and expressed his willingness to sign the agreement on minerals and security "at any time and in any format that (Trump) deems appropriate."

"The meeting did not go as expected [...] My team and I are ready to work under the strong leadership of President Trump to achieve lasting peace," Zelensky said.

"We want to move very quickly on all the next steps and work with the United States to reach a strong final agreement."

In this way, Zelensky is reducing the tension that has been building since the meeting with Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, in which the leaders did not sign the agreement on minerals and rare earths, which would give the US a financial share of mining exploitation in Ukraine. The meeting led to a series of reproaches and heated debates, at least in diplomatic language, between two countries that are, in principle, allies.

"We greatly appreciate what the United States has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence. And we remember the moment when things changed when President Trump provided Ukraine with Javelin missiles. We are grateful for that," Zelensky said.
